The food processing industry is one of the most challenging businesses to venture. When the founder of the OSI Group was starting the company, he just wanted a small business that would provide his locality with simple meat products that they needed. The founder of the group named it Otto & Sons, and his main aim was to get the local McDonalds to buy some of his products. It was the vision of one financial advisor that changed the destiny of the small company forever.

When the bank which was involved in financing the business invited Sheldon Lavin to be part of the day to day running of the business, he was hesitant. However, they had seen his decision-making skills and knew that he was what the company needed to make it huge. When he finally accepted to be part of the group, he promised the sons of the founder that he would always honor their place in the business. Most of the success that the company is enjoying today is a direct result of the efforts that were made by Sheldon Lavin and others who have been managing the business.

The company started its expansion in the early 80’s. They realized that the demand for their products went beyond Illinois and decided to open stores in other cities and states. They also realized that if they were to sell their products to the entire world, they would have to increase and improve the value of what they were offering. As a result, they created value-added protein foods. They currently sell value-added proteins such as sausage links, beef patties, and many others. They have managed to spread their influence to more than 17 countries, with their latest business spot being China. In China, they sell their products to big businesses such as Subway, Burger King, Papa John’s and Starbucks.

The company still has a long way to go in achieving their goal of being the best supplier of meat and value-added protein products in the world. However, there is also a lot that they have accomplished so far. The group has received numerous awards as a result of their exemplary performance in their niche. As the president of the group, David McDonald states, when you make your employees happy, you are assured that your customers will have brand loyalty.
